Kaveh Akbar è un poeta e studioso iraniano-americano nato a Teheran, in Iran, nel 1989. Suoi testi compaiono su numerose riviste tra le quali The New Yorker, Poetry, The New York Times, Paris Review, The Nation, Best American Poetry, The New Republic, The Guardian, American Poetry Review, The Poetry Review, PBS NewsHour. Ha esordito con la plaquette Portrait of the Alcoholic (Sibling Rivalry Press 2016) seguito da Calling a Wolf a Wolf (Alice James 2017 - Penguin 2017). In uscita nel 2021 Pilgrim Bell per i tipi di Graywolf. Insieme a Ocean Wong ha scritto i testi poetici per il film The Kindergarten Teacher del 2018.
Vincitore di numerosi premi tra i quali vari Premi Pushcart, Levis Reading ed il Lucille Medwick Memorial dalla Poetry Society of America e la borsa di studio Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg della Poetry Foundation.
Ha fondato e dirige DivideAppear e tiene una rubrica settimanale per la Paris Review.
Sta attualmente curando un’antologia di poesia dello spirito per Penguin Classic.
